I don't know about you guys, but there is nothing I love more than attending a themed event. I relish a them. I planned last year's Halloween outfit for three months. I already know what I want to be next year. My friend is holding a BBQ on Saturday and my friends insisted he make it
Coachella themed just so we could dress up like we're binned at a festival.
The Met Gala 2013 was 'punk' themed. Therefore, if I was a rich celebrity and there was a themed event I would go ALL OUT even if I could not name ONE punk band. Not only would I extensively research the era and significance of the theme but if I could not find something suitable I would PAY someone to design and make me an outfit because I would be a celebrity and very very rich.
First of all I feel it is necessary to feature those who attempted to dress to theme but obviously got really confused half way through planning their outfits (i.e 90% of attendees). The fact that most people heard 'punk' and said 'oh I know I will dress like I am starring in an 18th century period drama' is extremely worrying:
There was a lot of
nice gowns, a lot of gowns I was like yeah that's cool (hey
Cameron Diaz) BUT I WILL NOT FEATURE THEM HERE. I am only featuring those who dressed extremely well AND appropriate to theme. Is that too much to ask for?? Yes, apparently so.
These were my Met Ball THEMED favourites:
 |
| The only time I will EVER admit that that haircut works. Because in real life, it just doesn't work. Love this. |
 |
| A lot of bloggers have been iffy about this. Dangerously close to the period drama class, but I love it. |
 |
| Chilling - she made white lace punk. Fact. |
 |
One blog complained this was just a white dress with punky accessories. I do not care.
If your punky accessory is a long haired men in a bowler hat then power to you. |
 |
| COMMITTING TO THEME. YES. |
 |
| Fancy Her. |
 |
| The only bitch to rock a mohawk hat. Because, OBVIOUSLY. |
I do not know why so many people thought that wearing black (
Dakota Fanning,
Emma Watson and about two thirds of the rest of the guests) or a turban (I'm looking at you
Chloe Sevigney) was punk. I don't know why so many people just had no idea what event or theme they were dressing for (
Hailee Steinfield, Zooey Deschanel)
But the uncontested winner of TAKING THE THEME TOO LITERALLY instead of adapting to the theme to suit the event is Madonna. Madonna, NO.
